The Cleveland Ice Storm, Ohio’s most extensive and long-standing youth synchronized skating club, is gearing up for a fresh season with new leadership. Lana Ullemeyer was appointed as the new Program Director on June 7, 2024. Lana’s ties to synchronized skating and the Cleveland Ice Storm Skating Club (CISSC) run deep, having coached various CISSC teams since 2018, from Aspire beginners to Intermediate and Novice levels.

Before her role at The Cleveland Ice Storm, Lana coached synchro at the Cleveland Skating Club and Bowling Green Skating Club, and at the collegiate level with Bowling Green State University. With a background as a synchro skater, Lana started her journey at a young age with the
Forestwood Skating Club in Parma, Ohio, where her teams advanced to the national level in the early 1990s. She continued her skating career in college with Bowling Green State University Skating Club, serving as Team Captain and competing at the National level in years 2000 through 2003.

Lana brings firsthand experience of the demands of being an athlete and competitor in synchronized skating. She holds a degree in Sports Management from Bowling Green and later pursued a Master of Education in Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies.

Lana’s appointment as the CISSC Program Director earned unanimous support from the club’s hiring committee, comprised of representatives from the general membership and the Board of Directors. Lana has been serving as the Interim Program Director at CISSC since last February. During her tenure, she adeptly transitioned into the interim role, seamlessly taking on the responsibilities of the Program Director within four months. This included managing existing plans, establishing a budget, initiating new tasks, and planning updates, enhancements and additional training for the club.

“I am honored to have been chosen as the next Program Director of the Cleveland Ice Storm. The passion, enthusiasm and commitment of the skaters, families and coaches in our club is inspiring,” Lana said. “I am committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where
every skater feels valued, challenged and motivated to reach their full potential.”
